I found a world of information regarding Sever's Disease, which is an inflammation of the growth plate in the heels of children. So, off we went to the Podiatrist. They took xrays of his feet and showed us that his feet are very flat, they pronate (turn) outward, and that the growth plates in both heels were bright white (which means very inflamed) and one even had a line, like a fracture in it. Poor thing.
The remedy? Ibuprofen, ice, heel cups, orthotics - molded specifically for his foot, and rest. Jordan is cool with all but the resting part. He had to stop playing lacrosse for the season, because the doctor said, "If he doesn't stop running on them, until they heal, he will run with pain for the rest of his life." Seriously? He is only 11!
Since the main focus in his little life right now is to make the middle school football team in the fall, rest is exactly what he is doing. He is still lifting, doing his sit ups and push ups, and swimming/biking for cardio. Once his orthotics arrive, then he will be back in action, or so he hopes.
Word to the wise, if your child is limping on the field, it could be these growth plates in their heels.....get them checked....don't wait.
